Brief biography
Rachael Ruegg is an Associate Professor in the
School of Linguistics and Applied Language Studies and Director of the Academic
and Professional Writing Programme at Victoria University of Wellington. Her
research interests include language and literacy teaching and assessment, English for academic purposes, English-medium instruction, and the
internationalisation of higher education.

I have been in my current role for ten years as Director of the Academic and Professional Writing Programme.
Roles and
Responsibilities
I manage my programme, including timetabling,
recruiting, training and managing staff, offering mentoring and professional
development opportunities, as well as reporting on our programme achievements
and advocating for our programme. The other half of my role is as a researcher,
where I have published over 70 academic journal articles, coauthored two books,
edited two books and produced two single-authored books. I have also given over
60 conference presentations, including 9 invited speaker/keynote/plenary
presentations. I have supervised 13 PhD students, as well as 3 MA research
students. Seven of the PhD students and all 3 MA students have graduated.
