Dr Van Man Isabel Tchiang

Brief Biography
Dr Van Man Isabel Tchiang is an Associate Professor at the University of Saint Joseph (USJ), where she serves as the Dean of the School of Education and Director of the Teachers' Professional Development Centre. She earned her Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Education from the Inter-University Institute of Macau, graduating Magna Cum Laude with a Macau Foundation Full Scholarship.
An educator with over two decades of experience, she progressed from secondary teaching to leadership and government training roles. At USJ since 2013, she teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses and leads research in education policy, teacher development, and school collaboration. She directs Macao Foundation-funded projects, including recent research on Macao’s Education Reform. Her commitment to educational excellence focuses on innovative teaching, professional development, and impactful community engagement.
Achievements
Dr. Isabel Tchiang has achieved the distinction of earning her Master’s and Doctorate Magna Cum Laude and leading multiple funded research projects, including studies on Macau’s Education Reform and STEM implementation. She has published in peer-reviewed journals, presented at international conferences, and effectively supervised over 20 graduate students to completion.

Grounded in classroom experience and supported by current research, Beata Mirecka-Jakubowska, a seasoned educator at international schools, shows how teachers can weave metacognitive strategies into their teaching to help students “learn how to learn” in a world that’s always changing. In a nutshell, nurture the kind of learning that allows students to grow with AI, not compete against it.

An experienced English and EAL Teacher at high school level at Jakarta Intercultural School, Beata is a passionate professional always open to new horizons and opportunities. Interested in Blended Learning Programs, personalized online learning, challenging educational ventures like use of VR and AR, development of apps, curriculum and online platforms, Beata aims to influence the design of education for 21st century learners through educational projects such as Connected Learning – collaborative English language learning platform for high school classes, M.E.T.A. Mastering Education Through Awareness – a teacher’s guide to cultivating metacognition, critical thinking and reflective learning, or Step into a New World – VR technology use in English language lessons for elementary school students. Beata has also designed and delivered critical thinking and digital literacy courses – GRASP – for post-graduate studies abroad candidates from Indonesia.
